Default I'm Torn, please advise

Ok, guys, I'm really struggling here with whether or not to put my '28 Special Coupe up for sale. If you're interested in helping point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate some perspective.

I got the car from my dad 25 or so years ago, and have been driving it and working on it ever since. The coupe runs well, but needs to have the top redone. And as with most A's, I could still fix a few things.I now have a '31 PU which I've put a lumber rack on and which is now the more useful vehicle. So I find myself hopping in the truck all the time while the coupe barely gets driven. On the other hand, every time I see a the car, or even a picture of it on my computer I realize I still love it.

My wife is going to buy an new car here in the next month. (And believe me, she deserves it after driving her Previa for 20 years and 300,000 miles.) If I sell the coupe there will be room in the garage for her car and, of course I'll have fewer "things" to maintain. Additionally, if I sold the car, I'd sell one of my bikes too and combine the funds to get a newer bike. (I get around either in an A or on a motorcycle). Seems like a good plan to me. But, I'm not much of a wheeler-dealer and I just can't seem to place the ad.

Any input?

If there is any doubt, there is no doubt. Keep the car.

keep the car and your wifes new car will do just as good as the previa that lasted 20 years and 300k.

a car that has been in your family is part of the family .Talk to your wife right out all of the pro and cons and make the decision together.

I say keep the car...you cant run out every day and buy something that your Dad owned. You are the one that has to be happy, just dont make a hasty decision that you may regret later. Good Luck!

Keep the Car, drive it more. I sold my Dad's ol Coupe that he had for over 30 yrs. The car had a rebuilt engine ran good but needed a lot of work. Every time I see a pix of the car I wish I still had the Coupe. !!!

Selling the sport coupe would be the practical thing to do but maybe not the best thing. I've found that I always regret getting rid of anything model A , after the fact. I figure that I'm better off keeping my junk even if i'm not doing anything with it. I've seen the fact that the small amount of money that I get is soon gone and I only have regrets.

FWIW, humble opinion.

Good advice above, but also, think first:

1. If you get rid of the family owned Model A you will be miserable for the rest of your life.

2. If you get rid of your wife, you will probably lose both Model A's plus the garage & the motorcycle .............. then be even more miserable.

3. Suggestion: Compromise.

a) Plan A: Keep the wife & garage; next, keep the Model A truck & Model A coupe, but get a car cover for either the coupe or truck, & let her have the garage for her car for now & make her happy -- & remember if not enough cash for a down payment, car loans today are so cheap with low interest.

b) Plan B. is to build a new garage for one of the (3) vehicles in the near future & keep everybody happy.

c) Plan C. is to forget about the motor cycle for now if it causes too much confusion -- after Plan A. & B. you & your wife will be so happy with a clear mind you will know exactly what to do with the motorcycle.

KEEP IT!!! I have read too many posts from members who sold their cars, and they all regret having done so! Especially if it was your Dad's KEEP IT!!!! KEEP IT! KEEP IT!
If you don't drive it, then store it. It will become someone else "barn find" some day and you'll get to tell the story of how you kept it all those years for memory sake. In case you're still wondering what to do, KEEP IT.

Remember, once it is gone it is probably gone forever. I wish I had my dad's car.

Ditto. "...gone forever". Forever is a mighty long time. Instead, you can sell the pick up and replace it down the road if needed. But to sell your Dad's A coupe, it is irreplaceable. Ask your self, "what would have your Dad wanted you to do with his A coupe?"

My dad died last summer at 100 years of age. I am so very proud and happy that I had the good fortune of restoring the family Model A snowmobile (avatar) and think of him each time I see it. Like many others have shared, do not sell it.

Fix up the Coupe and give it to your wife to dive every day!
Then read my signature.

If you are having trouble with the decision keep it. Your subconscious wants you to keep it.

Sell it and move on. Right now I am disposing of my folks personal items. We have no children...and I wish I had the foresight to have them handle some of this. Look. your car will move on someday, so handle it now. You also have to ask.."What would Dad tell me." My folks were practical to a fault and would tell me to forget, or sell or give it to somebody. You owe it to your family to not kick this can down the road

My modern cars see the weather, my A's are garaged. I know it is weird, because my modern car's price is equivalent to the cost of both my A's. Luckily my wife understands. In trade with the wife, I brush the snow off her car every day. My suggestion is: shed a tear and tell her how much Dad and his car means to you.

Do you have room for a shipping container?
