Default Home from Washington run

Got home late last night from the Washington East versus West reliability run. The wife and I and the dog, dog did I say dog, I should have said "Miss Star", left Friday morning for Monitor, Washington. We took our time stopping to take a few pictures along the way. Found Monitor and the "Hotrod Cafe" having clocked 320 miles and then drove a few miles to Wenatchee, Washington and got a room for the night. The truck ran great at 55 to 60 mph all day.

Up early Saturday got some breakfast and then back to Monitor. I'll guess that there were at least one hundred cars for the event. Two of the cars drove from Sacramento, Ca. 800 plus miles. Saw a lot of nice cars and met some truly nice people. One couple, the "Ables" from Monitor invited us to their house just down the road for iced tea. After leaving the Ables we drove to Levenworth, Wa. just to see the town, bought a sandwich and started home. 120 miles down the road we stopped at Wapito, Wa. for gas and I discovered we were losing water. We limped in to Toppenish, Wa. and got a room, I thought we had a split hose which I tried to repair the next morning. Turned out to be a leaking water pump, oh darn. I called a friend back home, he brought his enclosed trailer loaded up and started for home at 4:00 PM and arrived at about 9:30 tired but, it was a reasonable fun trip in spite of having to be trailer-ed home the last 200 miles.

I didn't take any individual car pictures as there were just too many to choose from.

Sounds like the first half of trip makes up for the last.
Glad you three had fun and home safe!
Looking forward to seeing pictures

Nice talking to you at the show and thanks for coming. Sorry to hear of your troubles. One in my group that came all the way from Edmonton, Canada stripped a driveline coupler in his AV8 roadster. Towed it to my house in Spokane Sunday evening and he just finished fixing it last night.

We don't call it a reliability run for nothing

D. Jones - Love the truck. Much prettier than my old 47.

Chris,

We had great time looking at beautiful cars and meeting and talking with a truly great bunch of folks. We will remember the trip and not just because of the water pump problem. I'll admit that I cheated and had arranged with the friend prior to leaving for a rescue if needed, not that I expected to need to be rescued.

Sounds like your friends had a much bigger problem. Towing 160 miles to Spokane couldn't be fun. Hope they made it home without further problems.

Shu47; Your truck will look great when you get it finished. I doubt it is any worse than mine was when I started on it. Do a little work every day and it will get done and you will have the pride and satisfaction of having done it yourself.

Shu47, your truck looks great just as it is. If it were mine I would just put a clear coat on it.

This run is the most fun I have with my car all summer.
My '40 coupe never missed a beat all day.
Went over Snoqualmie and Blewett passes going and Stevens pass coming home.
Stevens is farther but a nicer drive.
I really dig looking over all the flatties.
We've been to all five runs so far and plan on going next year.
Fun stuff!

D. Jones and Waterboychuck - Thanks for the encouraging words. I am torn between fixing it up to look pretty or leave it as is. The truck belonged to my Grandfather and has always looked like the old farm truck it is and what my memories are of it. I look forward to one of these years making it to the Washington Run.

Shu47, if you leave it alone and just do the mechanical stuff on it to make it safe I think that you will still think of your grandfather and have a great time driving it.
