Re: Offenhauser 400 Heads Value
I recently had a stock head re-domed. It's hard to fine a shop that has the tooling and the knowledge to do it today.

Re: Offenhauser 400 Heads Value
Thanks Tubman, I was hoping you would respond. I will now make sure to chase all threaded holes and verify they pass. Also will measure chambers and level with a straight edge as advised.
Thanks Bob |

Re: Offenhauser 400 Heads Value
If possible, use an actual thread chaser, not a tap.

Re: Offenhauser 400 Heads Value
I understand about the tread chaser, I have overhauled aluminum marine engines. Aluminum treads can be a challenge. I have never worked on these type of heads and am very concerned about the alloy.

Re: Offenhauser 400 Heads Value
Re-doming and Milling for .045/,050 piston to head clearance and your good to go. Also I heard that painting them with Latex paint will prevent erosion, can't hurt, worth a try.
