Answer to wanted postings
I recently ran a wanted ad. Three responses and two were the same person under guise I think. The other is rather suspect and we’ll see if I got taken.....small bucks
Anyway I’d be very leery of responses. If you want to contact me directly I can be more descriptive as to these folks, operation they employed and the way this unfolded. PIA I recommend don’t bother with open wanted but deal only with know people...that’s what I’ll be doing in the future [email protected] Last edited by Oldbluoval; 11-19-2020 at 07:15 PM. |

Re: Answer to wanted postings
You can click on their name and see their profile. Check how long they have been here and if they have any postings. Oh other thing, don't post your email address, we can contact you via PM or email if you have yours in your contact profile. Best is just to have PM thru here then if sounds good, send your email. Posting your email really can open you to scammers.

Re: Answer to wanted postings
They kept changing identity (same person) so there is nothing I could definitively post.

Re: Answer to wanted postings
I have a second email address; the carrier been a search engine. it is 02jmfgary@ carriers id. jmfgary stands for junk mail for gary and the 02 is because the original jmfgary became too congested with junk and possibly scammers. if 02 gets heavy in junk and unwanted correspondence it will become 03jmfgary etc.
the email I have supplied members of this forum is ridgy dodge.

Re: Answer to wanted postings
I had a similar experience. Was contacted via PM to e-mail a second person who had the parts I wanted. This was my first clue as the two parts are so rare I doubt any one person have both. Second, the individual I contacted didn’t seem to understand fully the written word and wrote in broken English. He told me where he lives but wanted the money sent to his parents several states away. He would only provide photos after he received payment. The person who made the referral is a junior member with no posts. I ceased communicating at that point and reported the manner to the webmaster.

Re: Answer to wanted postings
On the other hand though, I have placed Wanted Ads here and found what I needed when members replied. There were no problems with any of those deals and we both were happy with the results. I can't see the fact that I have been on the forum for years would influence a scammer but maybe a member would respond with more confidence.
The first thing I would check is the other guy's membership of the forum and ignore anyone who who had just joined even if they did send pictures of what I wanted. I ran a check a while ago for friend by doing a reverse search for the image on the net and found where the scammer had got the image. We sent him a link to his own image and never heard from him again (if it was a "him") .

Re: Answer to wanted postings
I have really had great results in The Ford Barn classifieds, but you really have to weed through the ones with 0 posts. They must be up to no good. I like to deal with the people who are regular contributors to the forums.

Re: Answer to wanted postings
Wonder what percentage of car guys are on PayPal still or never? Most dealings I have had on Fordbarn other Model A sale sites included PayPal. Had a deal about a month ago though where seller did not accept PayPal but wanted me to send some other way on telephone, some new deal that PayPal now operates forget the name. When I went to bed the part was mine but was still figuring out how to pay.By morning person would not respond but I saw another post where this guy was bragging on his good fortune. It was the part I was supposed to get though I had not found a way to pay.Wonder if he really got it.

Re: Answer to wanted postings
Pay-Pal is done with an invoice thru Pay-Pal on their web site after you log in, there would be no telephone involved or any other name used. (This is for other reading that don't know)

Re: Answer to wanted postings
I had a few “A” items listed for sale in a few spots - Ford Barn, Craigslist, MAFCA, etc. I was contacted by a real interested person. There was a few options for me to receive his money.....didn’t sound all legitimate. I talked to my son. He said, when I communicate with this suppose to be buyer, just mention “fraud” in the conversation and you will not hear from him again. He was right !

Re: Answer to wanted postings
What I was referring to is called Venmo. From what I was told it is owned by PayPal. Seller would only accept that form of payment.
