Indeed. Shocked at the ferocity of the fires! It sounds like there is little that can be done other than evacuate.

The situation regarding evacuations is constantly changing and this is far from over here in Napa. We may get more wind tonight, but temps are supposed to be down.

Prayers to everyone out there who may be in harm's way. The news coverage back here looks very bad.

If you folks out on the left coast would grab the tree huggers by the throat and talk some sense into them about clearing the underbrush out from your area you would not have such devastating fires on what seems like a never ending cycle. Just sayin'.

Underbrush has nothing to do with a fire when the wind is blowing up to 70mph. I don't think the "tree huggers" have anything to do with drought conditions.

We had a huge amount of rain last season, so there is a large crop of vegetation.
There is almost no rain in the summer, so there is a huge amount of dry fuel.
From what I heard, the fire jumped a FREEWAY... (Four or six lanes?)

Maybe grabbing the guys who say we don't want to pay the taxes to pay the men to clear the underbrush would be more useful.

California is the highest taxed state in the nation where 90% of those taxes are used to pay for the excessive wages, benefits and perks of union represented government employees. Doesn't leave much left over to fill the potholes in the streets that are ruining your car or the underbrush burning the state down....

Talk political and the thread gets shut down..

I was wondering if Vern Tardell's place is ok. Looking on the active fire map, it looks awful close. He's on Pleasant Ave, Santa Rosa.

Also thinking of Mike Bishop, he's in SR too.

Mart.

its the wind that caused a lot of trouble. they where blowing at 70 mph, hot ambers land in trees and they go up like newspaper. also a lot of hills on fire. there is no way you could clean up all the underbrush there is acres and acres of it.

we have had a drought for the last 5 years, and last year we had a lot of rain. that made a lot of fuel for the fire.one other thing is there is a housing shortage hear. and just Santa Rosa lost about 2000 homes. all the people need somewhere to live. i don't think a lot of them can find places to live in Santa Rosa to live.

The fires have impacted people in 4 countys one way or another. i know there will a economic impact on all of Santa Rosa. for me i am safe and have not lost anything but a weeks worth of pay. but this was hard, i stayed home and was waiting to be evacuated
