Default Orig. ign. Switch won’t fit repro panel

I have had this trouble before, but couldn’t find the answer. My 29 repro instrument panel has the cup for mounting the rebuilt original ignition switch. This cup is just not deep enough for the switch body to be installed. The screw holes were put in way too low under the edge of the cup. What do you guys do adjust things ?

Return it for a refund and buy an original. I’m sure Bert’s will have one. Or I have a good restorable original you can have for the price shipping it from Portland to Nederland. It needs replating, but otherwise is in good shape.
Are you certain you have the correct popout for a ‘29 with an oval speedometer?

I was wondering the same as Ray about the popout switch. The oval speedometer takes one style and the round speedometer takes the newer style popout switch. I don't have pictures of them since all my pictures were lost in the fire, but a search should turn up the pictures of the two popout switches. The correct one for the oval speedometer does NOT have a seperate rear cover crimped in place.

I ran into this, too, when I bought what must be a used Repro off ebay. The switch screw holes just don't line up wit the Repro mounting holes. Unfortunately after removing and installing it a couple times (and the other items) the little tabs on the Ammeter are about to break off. I will need to buy a new one of them now. I like the idea of replating the cluster and this winter I might have that done.

Here is a good tutorial on uploading photos on this site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGijbl1bfnI

Slow video to load, but good advice.
