Another 32 frame number question
I have an original 32 frame I purchased from the US.
It has 3 identical frame numbers stamped on the left rail. The numbers do not start with a star or a letter, but rather they are 5 numbers "50***" Does this sound correct?, and if so, where would I find a record of them? I've looked at http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...ialnumbers.htm http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...hassis+numbers Thanks in advance for your help. |

Re: Another 32 frame number question
The 4 cylinder numbers start with a 5, but I thought it started with a six digit number. I may be wrong, you will have to check. Do the stamps look genuine? The ford stamps are quite unique (on purpose). But 4 cyls deffo start with a 5.
Mart. Edit - just found a post where the 4 cyls start at 5,000,000. I googled "1932 ford 4 cylinder frame numbers" and found some info. Last edited by Mart; 12-23-2013 at 06:31 PM. |

Re: Another 32 frame number question
Likely originally a frame used with a V-8 in the 50 thousand range if the stamps are authentic. The absence of stars and a "18" prefix were a no-no in terms of directions from Dearborn, but not unheard of. The three locations is consistent with the Dearborn instructions for passenger car frames.

Re: Another 32 frame number question
Thanks guys - These are genuine rails. I am currently installing the original crossmembers, and they fit like a bum in a bucket, plus they are well worn with a little pitting.
its just that the 3 sets of the same numbers don't correspond with common practice. (position - yes; numbers - no) |

Re: Another 32 frame number question
Before passing judgment I'd like to see a picture of the number and the location points on the frame.

Re: Another 32 frame number question
Dick, The location points are in the well known locations, with the front one very difficult to read. I will try to get a picture of them later today for you

Re: Another 32 frame number question
I had an early US 32 B frame that had an AB 5xxxxxxxx number on it and the title. I think the later B frames had just a B not an AB.

Re: Another 32 frame number question
The problem may be with the legibility of the front-most number. The original instructions to the assembly plants were to include the prefixes only on the front number and only the actual engine number (less prefix) on the remaining two locations on passenger car frames. (On commercial and big truck frames, the engine number, including the prefix, was to be stamped only in the forward location.)

Re: Another 32 frame number question
David, what you prescribe as the process from the factory makes sense.
I hit the front number with some de-rusting acid to try to bring what remains up o the fore. Dick - the rear number is approx. 4" forward of the rear crossmember, almost at the crest of the rise in the kick-up, with the middle number 1/2 way between the rear and the front. There is a "9" in the series, and it looks like an upside down "b", so I assume that it is a unique typeface that Mart referred to above. |

Your numbers conform to the form used by Ford for this purpose as shown below.
