Re: Ford prototypes?
The trucks were already using the 1/4 turn cap in early to mid 30 with the 29 style cab.

Re: Ford prototypes?
29 style cab ended in May 1930. From about November to May the 1/4 turn cap was used.
I scrapped a basketcase December 1929 AA truck with the quarter turn cap. Its possible that a reverse substitution might be done. Joe K

Re: Ford prototypes?
There's a guy here in Texas with a 31 slant window sport coupe. The engine and frame number is "X" I guess for experimental?

Re: Ford prototypes?
ThirtyFordor, you have asked a legitimate question regarding early Murray fordors, so it must be considered.
I am just organising a Ford Archives photo showing a 1930 Fordor prototype taken in late 1929. The pc I use for scanning is very slow, so bear with. |

Re: Ford prototypes?
This photo from the Ford Archives is taken from Peter Winnewissers excellent book 'The Legendary Model A Ford'. Photo taken Oct. 16 1929 & highlights a few odd features that make it a prototype.
The 19" wheels have the rolled edge same as 21's ; cowl lamps similar to '29 style with different shaped arms ; headlamps may well be not quite the 1930 shape either?; 'eyebrow' front fenders[bead follows the front edge] ; there are odd interior rear quarter panel lamps. I can not tell from the photo, but I would not be surprised if the gas cap was threaded on same as the 1929 style tanks. It is interesting that this car has 1930 style bumpers as even some early 1930 cars sold here in NZ had the '29 bumpers fitted. It has the pressed steel headlamp bar which does not require plate clamps,an item seen in mid 1930 production also. There may be other oddities I have missed on this prototype. Are there any other features [ ie. obviously 1929 or unusual] that exist on your Sedan? I am sorry about the photo quality. Tom in NZ |
