What condenser for a Bosch (blue) coil?
I converted my 41 to 12V and it's using a crab distributor. I just put in a Bosch blue #00012 coil, but what condenser should I use to match the coil?

Re: What condenser for a Bosch (blue) coil?
It's more a question of the quality of the condenser than it's ratings. Most condensers used with standard points ignitions are in the low .20 micro-farad capacitance range, say .22-.24. The brass "racing" condensers Mallory used to sell were .36 micro-farads. When I was developing my replacement ""Big Brass Condensers", I tried capacitors as low as .047 micro-farads and as high as .75 micro-farads. The engine ran great on all of them. The only variable will be point life; too high a value and it will transfer material from one side of the points, too low a value it will transfer material from the other. I would say that anything between .20 micro-farads and .40 micro-farads will give reasonable point life. If you see any significant material transfer, you may want to increase or decrease the capacitance. Which way to go will depend on whether you have positive or negative ground, and which side the deposit is building up on. There may be someone out there that has already gone through this exercise with a Bosch coil who may be able to give you some more specific information. One last point (pun not intended). Most single point systems use the low twenties value while dual points seem to require a mid thirties value. As I mentioned above, the old Mallory brass condensers they supplied with their dual point setups were. 36 micro-farads, while I believe "Bubba" on here favors a .33 micro-farad capacitor for the old Ford dual point units.

I understand all that. Bubba says that a crab style distributor should need a .25 MFD condenser and he recommends the Bosch coil. I spent all afternoon trying to find condenser ratings but no luck. Since there are many folks out there using the Bosch coil I was hoping someone would have found something that works properly and could give me a part number.

My opinion.... use a Standard FD72 they are available practically anywhere, cheap and reliable. I’ve used well over a hundred of them with zero issues

The FA54 is the Echlin equivalent to the FD72, just comes with a slight higher price tag.

Bubba or Charlie NY have them. They say system voltage not an issue. I've had distributors rebuilt by both guys. They do excellent work.
