Unhappy Setting for V8 pressure plate

Could you please help with advice on how I set the three fingers on the pressure plate for a V8 pressure plate to go into my 1930 A Model. Can I do this myself on the bench or must it be on the fly wheel or must I take it to a clutch workshop to put on their measuring equipment - {hard to find one here these days}? What is the measurement from the top plate to the finger and where do I measure it on the finger, where it touches the throw out bearing which is the small adjustable bolt or end of finger and what is this measurement ? I am totally lost here. Your help will be much appreciated. John Spragg Australia

My advise is not to mess with it - that's set by the rebuilder. However if I recall correctly with the clutch assembled the dimension from the rear surface of the pressureplate to the bolt head should be about 5/8"

John, have you already machined your stock flywheel to accept the V-8 Pressure Plate?

Yes stock fly wheel has been machined and lightened to 42 LBS this had been done at Bert's I have been informed, I am now fitting a Dave Delmue F150 transmission , this pressure plate came off and I wanted to make sure it is set correctly before bolting it all up - back to a rebuilder to check and reset by the looks of it . Thanks.

The picture is from Ford 32-47 repair book

the "gauge plate" is .340 for the 9" clutch ---this is the thickness the compressed clutch disc should be

the distance from the lever to the top pf the pressure plate for the 9" clutch is 11/16 (the picture shows 7/8 which is for the 11" clutch

the book lists the facing thickness as .125

this is all for parts to original Ford specs, if you are using the disc for the spacer mark the position of the disc, check the measurements with the disc in several positions to rule out disc thickness variations
---I have used nuts before instead of the "gauge plate, checked each nut for thickness first

Kurt's picture is very helpful in this endeavor. That is unless the clutch cover is a modern replacement which will be adjusted on a machine with shims or an original that has had the adjusters welded after being rebuilt.
