Default Jack under seat

Do you keep a jack under your seat? An original or something newer? I'm starting to take longer and longer drives in my 29' RPU and want to be able to change out a wheel if need be. Thanks!

I keep original screw jack/ handle under the seat, the crank/lug wrench on the floor because I give hand cranking shows often, also under the seat are parts I never need because I have them

Yes, I do. Just to be on the safe side, don't wait till you need it. Before that time comes you should check to see if the jack will reach the axel before you need it. Found out the hard way, you may need to carry a piece of a 4x4 to sit the jack on, this will give you the height if the jack doesn't

go high enough.

Do the supplier make a reproduction tool kit with a jack? I do not have a jack in the car at this time and I am starting to put on some serious miles.

I keep a jack and piece of 2x6 about 10" long to establish a firm base in case I need it on soft or uneven ground.

I use a bottle jack only because it is compact and can be expanded to do the job. 700rpm makes a very good point. My pressure treated 2x6 is about 8 in. long! I also carry a folding lug wrench because the crank does not work well on a really tight lug nuts. The lug wrench is a cross shaped affair but two arms fold up on itself for easy carrying. I did modify the bottle jack because the top of the jack was poorly made, too small. I welded a small channel piece on to the top so that it would engage the front axle and support the rear axle. Another topic would be "what spare parts do you carry at all times." Happy Motoring, Ed

I have a trunk with 4 army surplus ammo cans filled with different things. In one of the ammo cans I carry a bottle jack which I needed on a rear tire blow out.

I had to read this twice as I first thought you said you carry a bottle of Jack - maybe to have while waiting for the tow.

Put the jack in a box. You’ll be surprised when you need it.

Another vote for a bottle jack. Cut out a piece of old carpet or rug to fit the pan and it'll help cut down on rattles.

My jack isn't original, but it is period correct. And, yes, it fits very nicely under the seat in my coupe.

An original or near original jack in good shape is easy to find at a swap meet, I see them often for $10 or less. They work well and are small enough for easy storage.
