Default '35 Roadster joins the Mile High Club

Well not quite, at least as we know the Mile High Club today. Sunoco wanted to promote their new Blue Sunoco gasoline so they had a '35 Ford roadster suspended from a Burnelli airplane and the result was good advertising for both Sunoco and Burnelli. Race driver Zeke Meyer took his first plane flight which was intended to go to 10,000 ft. but they only went up about a mile when Zeke went through a hatch in the bottom of the plane cabin to the car in zero degree temperature, being buffeted by 130 MPH winds. The car did start successfully, but it was reported that it did catch fire before landing.

Flying in the thirties had to be an incredible thrill. In the early fifties, in first grade, I caught a couple rides in a Piper Cub, no door, with a showboatin' lunatic. My classmates would not believe the experience as I related it.

Did a search on the Burnelli plane, wow how incredible for that era. We all love the '35 roadster but that plane was amazing for the '30's. Check it out,
