40 Front clip removal
One of my winter proj for this year will be to try to stop the oil from hemorrhaging from the engine. Plan is to pull the engine & re seal
With the long winter here, I'm planning to pull the front clip, fenders, grille, supports as a unit. Anyone have any idea how heavy the clip is? Need more than 2 old guys to lift it off? Tks Gents |

Re: 40 Front clip removal
I had a defective throw out bearing go bad after 7 miles on a fresh concourse restoration of my 40 deluxe wagon. I took the radiator, and grille + louvers out as well as the Y fender support and and it was easy to take the engine out without messing up the hood to fender fit. It was made easier as all the bolts had just been installed but it didn't take long. I was able to do this and leave the wiring and bumpers intact. Just another approach. Tom's advice about the cast grilles is a valid one especially if the 40 is a V8 (std).

Re: 40 Front clip removal
I have removed the engine from a 40 sedan and a 41 pickup without removing any sheet metal. If you remove the hood supports you can pull the hood up higher and hold it back with a strap. Once the radiator is out, the motor can be pulled out (and refitted).
Just mentioning it in case you were unaware and wanted to save front clip removal. Mart. |
