Default Replacing screen in ‘36 air cleaner

The horn question below makes me wonder how to replace screen in air cleaner (screen and filter media were painted by prior owner when refinishing the air cleaner).

Removing the top, does one simply try to wind / thread the new screen / media through the three support bars and somehow coax it into shape ??

Seems cumbersome.
