Default Turkey Day but The Hawks Are Out There

Most everyone I have had contact with here on the Barn & Hamb have been good honest people. Recently I posted something in the Wanted section. I got two replies. One guy was OK but the condition was not what I was looking for. The other guy has the part and tells me "I don't know what it is worth. Do you" he asks. I say I have seen them all over the park and I made an offer I thought was fair. I told him I have seen them go for more and less than my offer, figuring he did not have to list it or pay commission to say ebay.
After I make my offer, He tells me that is not enough money for the part. (I thought he did not know what it was worth) So I say OK what do you want then. He comes back with some crazy amount. I walked, it just pissed me off he was not up front & honest from the beginning. So I guess he just circles the want adds waiting to find a sucker to swoop down on. Be careful not all members are honest people. Thanks for letting me vent!

Because of this I have avoided the want section. I have sold some extra parts through that section and have had good results. Sorry to hear this.

As I said I have met great people on these sites. This is my first time with a not so good experience.

I can relate to this as well, one item was totally misrepresented awhile back and the guy was mad when I asked to return for a
refund since his description was not accurate and I paid the freight back ( 35.00) he charged me almost 50.00 to ship alone!! He then took his time to refund my money (total a-hole). Another member had an item I asked about and he promptly replied and then I asked for some pics, he has never replied or even an explanation....both long time members too.

Pretty sad that some car folks like to play games with fellow car folks.
That happened to me once when a fellow tried to really beat me down on the fair price
I was asking for a part in excellent condition.

My price was 1/2 of the retail price. He finally said he would pay my price but, by that time, I had decided I didn't want to sell it to him because it became obvious he was going to become a "problem child" after the sale despite my full and honest description plus photos of the part. Ended up telling him it was still for sale but, not to him.

I then raised the price and sold it to another person with no complaints afterwards.

My gripe is a few sellers don't post pics or figure out how so you wait a day or 2 and then ask for more detailed pics and another day goes by etc.Worse on the HAMB ,no pics and then many haven't an idea what year the parts are(mainly early Ford).

I totally agree. if you're going to post a FOR SALE ad, common sense says several photos are a must.

I send photos via e-mail. I don't post pics on the ad because I have seen pics stolen by scammers and posted on other sites hoping to find a sucker. Never had a problem sending photos to potential buyers via e-mail.

Just to set the record straight, i answered ct1932 ford's add for a '32 deck lid handle. I have a N.O.S. mint condition handle that i'm not going to use. Mark (ct1932 ford) inferred (in his post today) that i was not honest, apparently because we couldn't agree on a selling price. I thought it was worth four or five hundred dollars. I checked ebay (today) item #184040329866, it is a used deck lid handle and re pop latch that sold for $550.00. I didn't know about this auction before i contacted mark. If i was to offer advise to mark, try the de -cafe.

I can relate to your disappointment but I sure don't see anything that was dishonest about the seller wanting more than you offered. If you don't want to pay the price or play the game just move on.

Well hotcoupe tom you did not tell me what you wanted you told me you did not know what is was worth, and asked (do you?)That apparently was a lie. The one on eBay did not sell for 550 it sold as an offer even though it did not show it that way. Most that I have seen sell from 250 to325 I offered 275 and you replied you wanted 4 to 500 for it.
My point you should have said what you wanted right from the start instead of playing games. Grow up!

I agree, but he told me he did not know how much it was worth. Why do that when you do know what you think it is worth. Just tell me how much you want end of story!

You played your game instead of just telling me what you wanted for the part.
She was right! I was crazy to get involved with a lair. Everyone beware.

I'm having a very nice Thanksgiving thank you! THE END!

Im shocked a seller is offering an item for sale and has no idea what its worth. REALLY Were actually going to believe you the seller did not search Ebay prior to offering it to see what they have sold for thats not believable. A seller had no idea what an item was worth especially considering its a Deuce part Im shocked.

I have often thought that a lot more people would reply to Wanted Ads if those posting the ads would state what they are prepared to pay for a part in the condition they are looking for. Sellers are expected to state a starting point on price, why shouldn't those wanting something be expected to do the same?
