New Tires and Tubes
I just returned from the tire store with new Cokers on the 48. I ordered them Saturday afternoon online from Summit. They arrived here Monday afternoon. I'd say that is pretty quick service.
I also bought tubes from them and when I took it to the shop to get them mounted and balanced I was advised that the tubes were incorrect. The valve stem is to narrow for the hole in the rim and they said it would shear off. So they installed spacers over the stems that fills the hole in the rim with no gap. The person at the shop said they do this when necessary and is a safe procedure. Having never heard of this I was more than a little apprehensive. These tubes are made in Korea, hope they are better than Chinese ones. Has anyone else run into this situation? |

Yep... I have spacers on some valve stems and they've been fine.

Re: New Tires and Tubes
Through the late '50's and the '60's that was normal procedure.

Re: New Tires and Tubes
Your tubes have the TR-13 stems that are too little.
Next time you buy tubes get these from Lucas Tire. They have the TR-15 stems that fit right. http://www.lucasclassictires.com/600...?categoryId=-1 I always carry two spare tubes since, if the valve stem breaks, as I've had many do, they can't be fixed and the tube must be replaced. Other reasons to carry spares also since these tubes can't be bought at tire stores along the way. I also recommend using these liners between the tube and rim to prevent leaks from rim defects like I had all the time before I put liners in. http://www.lucasclassictires.com/15-...?categoryId=-1
