Default 55 to 56 Dash Swap for a Sedan...

Anyone do this lately?

Anyhow, I got some 56 parts in a large box today and the dash wings do not match the pillar pieces. My take is of course there would have to be at least two versions of the pillars - one for hardtops and one for sedans. But, check out the healthy list of part numbers from Ford - - - with no indication of which body series these dash wings fit.

Can anyone lend a helping hand? I am pretty sure I have the hardtop pillar pieces - will try to post a photo of those. They certainly don't match the wings and then the height is too short.

Are you comfortable posting a photo of your WARRANTY PLATE?

Cipher on how BODY PARTS NUMBERS work and ask any question you need answered.

70C is the body code... the issue is that with all the numbers (which are just fine), Ford only has that one "general" diagram of the wings and pillars. No diagrams of the variance, but maybe a full-blown body parts manual would have that. I only have the 49-59 part numbers and then the diagrams but the diagrams are pretty generic as that goes. Sometimes they are helpful, sometimes they are like my kid did it with a coloring pencil. LOL

I will have to see the reverse side of the wings I have to see if the part numbers are stamped on there...

You are assuming that everything you received in the box of parts fits '55/56 Ford car, but maybe it doesn't. That green piece doesn't look like the part that fits 55 or 56 Ford sedans or hardtops. Maybe an earlier year? It's not a '57/58 either.

70C - 1955/56 FAIRLANE CLUB SEDAN

Use 70 (1st two characters of BODY CODE) in the chart (BASIC PN 04334-5) BASIC PN I provided.

Do you see how the system works? First two PN CHARACTERS of basic body PN ID the SERVICE PART as to TRIM LEVEL.

EDIT -

Quote:
Ford only has that one "general" diagram of the wings and pillars. No diagrams of the variance

FORD only provides ILL's to help the PARTS DUDE to ID the part he is searching for. A BODY TRIM MANUAL may have more detailed ILL's.

In 1955, some of the Fairlane models had chrome plated metal garnish mouldings around the inside of the windshield rather than painted metal, but it is the same stamped metal part, but that could be a reason for a difference in part numbers.
As far as the "wings" on each side of the dash, the only difference I know of in the pot metal piece is that mainline models do NOT have the holes drilled for the center stainless steel accent strip, but the Customline and Fairlane models do.
Never paid much attention to Crown Vic, so there could be some variance in the parts there which would translate to different part #'s.

1956 had four different trim levels and four different PN's (see chart above).

The take-off must be from a different trim level.

If the provider had recorded the BODY CODE, it would be simpler to find the correct piece.
