Nice truck. It will be fun going through that one. If you're using cable ties, if you don't have a flush cutter then a pair of garden secateurs can make a nice flush cut. At least mine can.

May I ask how did you expect the brakes to perform?

Mart.
Was hoping the brakes would be about like my first car, a 1963 Skylark convertible. And they are close to the same. At least as I remember 40+ years ago.

My first car was a 1962 Skylark. Two door hardtop with the 215 V8. I believe the Buick had self-adjusters. You'll have to keep these adjusted.

I'm with the rest of 'em. That's a good looking truck, and I understand all about not being able to concentrate on the job cuz all you want to do is run around in the new old truck. Happy motoring!

Would love to have that old convertible. It was quite the beach car for a 16 year old.

Snuck out a couple times today - working from hove because of covid. Got a lotta waves and thumbs up in our village. Thanks for the compliments. The prior owner drove it but kept it clean as a whistle. Harder fo me on our dirt roads!

Post another picture with some road dirt. I live a half mile from the pavement so I gave up trying to keep em clean many years ago. When you get new sneakers for that thing, I'm casting my vote for blackwalls. I run 215 85 16 radials , no tubes, stock wheels. I can live with the zip ties though.

I’m voting for blackwalls too. Earlier poster reminded me to check date codes. If there aged out I’ll new ones now, otherwise I’ll drive them a while.

Great looking truck! There are two things that will dramatically change the handling of your truck. I drive a '37 1/2 ton that i converted to hydraulic brakes ('39-'40), and after about 10,000 miles i changed to Lincoln brakes on the front axle and i used a front sway bar from a '40 ford. These are both bolt on modifications, and the difference is amazing.

Tom I’ve already been thinking of Lincoln brakes based on what I’ve read. Did not even think of the sway bar. Great suggestions both. Thanks.

I vote black walls too. I’m a half mile out in the woods myself. Vehicles are always dirty. My son lives on Oahu, if he sees an old vehicle he sends me a picture. I don’t know if he’s near you but I’ll tell him to look for a red pickup....... Mark

Mark I split my time between Hawaii and the mainland. The truck lives here in New Mexico. Not a lot of old vehicles on the big island, they rust out before they get old.

Cheers,
