Default Push Choke and Throttle Rod (Wobbly)

Hey Guys. I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.

I'm having an issue with the push choke rod that goes through the firewall to the choke on the carb. Please see attached pic.

I think the throttle and push rods are meant to just float in mid-air.

The problem im having is when i push and pull the choke from the inside of the car, the rod (from under the hood) misaligns itself and at times doesn't operate the carb. See pic.

It seems that there should be a guide or bracket for the choke/throttle rod to rest on (under the hood) for more stability.

Any help will be great. Thanks.
