How Fast?
I searched the forum and could not find anything on this and am probably just over looking it.
When I get in my A to test drive it runs up to 20-25 mph in 2nd gear and 3rd gear only gets up to 35. Is this a linkage issue or? How do I adjust or ?? for improvement? Thanks Mike |

Re: How Fast?
Look at this thread. Was ultimately diagnosed as a bottleneck in the fuel line.

Re: How Fast?
Apparently something is wrong.
Where are you setting the timing and GAV ? Does the advance linkage work its full range? Does the throttle linkage open fully ? |

Re: How Fast?
Hi Mike in Texas,
35 is too low. Should be able to get to 50 or 55 if stock. 1. Check throttle linkage to make sure that throttle opens up full when you press on the accelerator. 2. Make sure that the timing is correct. Set the timing as instructed in the owner's manual. Copies are available from the suppliers. Advance the spark when driving to the point where the engine runs best and that advancing further will provide no improvement. This point varies with the engine speed and how open the throttle is. 3. Make sure there are no parasitic drags on the car, such as the brakes. Put the car in neutral and try pushing it. You should be able to push it fairly easily on the flat. 4. Make sure there is no restriction in the exhaust system or intake manifold. 5. Take a compression check. You should get at least 50 psi on all cylinders for a stock car. 7. Make sure the carburetor GAV is adjusted correctly. Screw in in or out until the engine runs best. 8. Make sure the tires are pumped up to 35 psi. What body style do you have? 35 mph is not bad for an AA truck. 4 door sedans are slower than other body styles.
