Default installing rear shackles

There seems to be two types of shackles available for a 40 ford, the original style and the rubber or poly types...

Which is better?

When removing the old shackles do you also remove the bushings? (bushings = what is left after the spring bolts are driven out...)

Yes, you have to remove the bushings. Most remove enough of the rubber to get a hacksaw blade in the eye. Cut the metal tube that surrounds the old rubber bushing, being careful not to cut into the spring eye. Peel out the old metal.

I guess opinions differ on the best replacement. I have had the poly bushing squeak. I have read where some go to a bearing house and get impregnated bronze flange bearings the same size as the bushings and like them.

Any bearing supply house. You don't need any longer than the 1". The rear load is less than the front. They go in easier and will last forever. I had to replace my new stock type shackles because the rubber gave up quickly.
