Default Felt quite fortunate this weekend... Thanks again Walt

I had a previous thread here about how poorly my 8BA was running...

A condenser fixed that issue, or so I thought, but Walt Dupont saw that thread and after several tries on his part (I'm tough to catch up with on the weekends) he came over to have a look at the flathead and get it straigtened out, he lives minutes away from me.

We started with a test drive after talking for a bit..., the coupe was running fine, or so I thought, so when we got back to the house I was feeling a little embarrased about having Walt stop by for nothing. Walt wanted to take a closer look. We pulled the plugs, a few were blackened, he tested the compression, all at 115lbs (Walt built this engine). Then he moved onto the ignition, set the timing, but when the vac line was hooked back up he knew something was still wrong. He was about to take the distributor back to shop to test it when he did a simple check on the vac advance, the diaphram was shot. Tried another distributor, wow! what a difference! no acceleration lag or stumble from idle now.

Then Walt moved onto the 2 carbs, set the idle and corrected the air intake between the carbs, the rear was very weak and the front too strong, Walt balanced those. And then noticed that I had plumbed the vac line to the intake and not the carb so the vacumn was enough to advance the distributor way too soon, we replumbed the vac line to the rear carb.

Test drive #2...OMG! What a difference! The acceleration was SO MUCH better, the sound was SO MUCH better! WOW!

I tried to watch every thing Walt did And I'm sure my fat head got in the way more than once, but I was taking the opportunity to learn everything I could.

Walt, Thanks again It was a fun and informative 2 hours!

It always amazes me when someone that "just knows" is able to apply their skills. Sounds like you did what I always do and try to sponge up the knowledge they're dropping! Good times! Enjoy your newly tuned engine!!
