think if it was my car and I didn't like the look of the alternator and if it works good every think is 12 volt why monkey around making thins less efficient and cost , just make a cover for the alternator that makes it look like a generator not that difficult I was going to do this to the alternator I fitted to my 39 but I have so much fun driving it with bright lights etc with the hood shut ive forgot how ugly the alternator looks

And yes....a 59-AB ENGINE will fit perfectly, as ALL of the BASIC flatheads from '32 thru '53 are configured the same. The questionable item here is the FAN. I would love to see what kind of fan you have on your '36 PICK-UP. It should be noted that the pick-ups of the years we are discussing here have MORE room for fans as the pick-up radiators do NOT lean back as drastically as on the passenger cars. Could you possibly post a picture of your fan? It should be noted here that a 59-AB fan assembly will NOT fit in a '36 passenger car with stock radiator. Ask me how I know! DD

The correct generator mount is stamped 21A, used from 1942-1948, it has the 2 holes to slide the fan up and down to adjust the belt, used on the generators with a 4 1/2 " case, will not fit the early 3 brush generators with a 4 " case

Here's my 59ab in a 34 with Whitney converted 34 gennie, complete with fake cutout, and 34 fan and radiator. 12v neg g, (you can get 6v if you wish) with 12 volt coil rewound by skip. Who would know its not a generator if i didn't tell you? sorry, not a good pic, just one I had in stock

My fan set up in my 36 pickup is stock 59 AB and the same as the one pictured in the second post. So pickups must have more room for the fan. Ron

Its the stock 59A fan assembly that is the problem when used on a '34 car not the generator mounted fan in a car. Apparently the car radiators tip back so there's less room than the trucks.

Bill is correct! This '36 pick-up with a 59-AB shows how much more room is available with it's radiator that sits so much more "straight-up" than a '34 or '36 passenger car radiator. DD
