Have I got '40 truck front fenders?
Ok I bought these fenders several years ago from the attic of a garage in Mass. Holding them up to my coupe they simply don't fit in the cowl areas. Now I know these fenders aren't the best...
BUT! After searching the web it seems I have truck fenders, the rear flange is squared off and on the drivers fender there is the remants of a brace that I believe is found on pickups... |

Re: Have I got '40 truck front fenders?
A pickup is not truck. Trucks are trucks, anything bigger than 1/2 ton and they take truck fenders.

Early 39 deluxe ( about pre March 1939 ) are curved between the headlight opening to where the grille attaches. Later ones are flatter. make sure they are a matching pair.
39 Mercurys are like that also - why ? - who knows. |

Re: Have I got '40 truck front fenders?
I have a set of front fenders that came off of a sedan, flange bent and run on a 40 pickup for years, now I have them and rebent the flange and have them on my 40 drag car.

No but I was just saying when you say truck, you might want to clarify 1/2 ton pickup if that's what you are referring to because trucks used different fenders and especially the 40-41 which also had a completely different front end on everything bigger than 1/2 ton. |

Re: Have I got '40 truck front fenders?
I like Ford's terminology................there's no mistaking cars are "Passenger car", 1/2 ton pickups and panels are "Commercial" and 1 1/2 Ton trucks and larger are "Truck". The 3/4 Ton and 1 Ton are listed as "122" Truck" usually.
Hope this helps a bit. I was raised by a Dad who owned Ford trucks ('40, '46, '52 F-8, '64 C800) so learned early on the "correct lingo". Paul J. |

Re: Have I got '40 truck front fenders?
Well, it is common modern vernacular to refer to your pickup as a truck, I was just saying it clears up some of the fog Henry left on us if you specify in any conversation what size "truck" you are referring to. Tonner is also a term Ford used, and we who own them use. There were tonner pickups and panel trucks and the 40-41s use the big truck front sheet metal.

So what the hell are all the CW singers going to sing about if they can't say, "pickup TRUCK".

Re: Have I got '40 truck front fenders?
LOL! well enough of the pickup truck wars....
I listed the pickup fenders and it took all of 4 hours before I sold them to some one that lives just minutes away who needed them for his pickup... AND! he has a buddy that has a spare set of CAR fenders that he just might be willing to sell! I'll know more soon, keeping my fingers crossed! And willow billy... sorry I got kinda snarky there ... tone is a hard thing to read in texts, and I may have overreacted a smidge ... :-) |
