model a wishbone question
i recently bought a model a front end for the wishbones. i wanted to split them for a hot rod. look at the picture and tell me what they are from. the one in the top of the picture is from my dads 30 and it has a cast steel part on the end. the one i am asking about is the bottom one. it has a different end on it. if it is something special, a restorer should have it. let me know what you experts think.
thanks, steve |

I am no expert on this subject but why not save that for the orignal one's and buy the hot rod one's. p.s. my 2 cents

That looks like an early '28. The attached axle should have two Ford scripts, possibly different sizes. There isn't much call for those but I'd like to see it paired with someone that needs it!

Re: model a wishbone question
Please don't cut one up. By the Hot Rod version. It should suit you a lot better.
It has survived 80 years and remained intact, please let it remain that way. |

Re: model a wishbone question
The rusty one like Marco said is an early 28. You would be wasting your time splitting it since the weld bungs wouldn't fit in the ends anyway. Just find a regular 28-29 with a worn ball and use that. Or if you want a longer split wishbone you could use a 37-41.
I would cut an original one up in a heartbeat. And before everyone gets all bent out of shape I will tell you why. The new split wishbones from speedway are a rip off. I think the want like $300. I see at least 2 or 3 Model A wishbones at every swap meet I go to. They usually want around $50. It all comes down to how much money you want to spend and your welding/fabricating skills. Cutting one up is not going to end the world. And to everyone that does not want you to cut it up how about you man up and buy his wishbone for $300 so he can go buy a new hot rod set from speedway. |

Re: model a wishbone question
My father sold one for $150 a while back. Being the early 28 style of wishbone it is kind of rare and hard to find.
