Default 46 ford glovebox

The glovebox in my 46 is missing little courtesy lamp. The switch/wire that lamp plugs into is still attached to dash. Cant find and not sure what the piece looks like that holds the bulb into the glovebox. Probably just make something but would rather find a used one or at least get a pic of the thing so I know where it go's and what it looks like. Thanks

I've never heard of such a thing as a lighted glove box in '46. Methinks you are searching for something that doesn't exist.
Are you certain this was Ford (OEM) thing?

MY 46 super deluxe has no glovebox lamp or any place to mount one that I can figure out. Are you confusing the dash lights dimmer switch?

Hmmm, thought for sure there is a light in glovebox. Had a 46Merc that had one. Also, when you open door to glovebox there is FORD switch(simple contact) that opens and closes when you close or open door. My original glovebox was missing (but switch still there)so I cant tell where light was. This is a Super Deluxe woody, maybe this makes a difference???? Thanks

I am not a pro on post war Fords but sure can't recall ever seeing or hearing of a Ford (OEM) light.
I did take a close look through my parts manuals and find no listing there. Nor is there a reference to such on the wiring schematic.
My guess is this is an after-market piece added by someone in the past.

Have you attempted to ask the Ford V8 Club advisor?

There were lights in glove boxes in 46-48 Fords and mercs. Look at wiring schematic for these years. Beneath the wire for clock and above pillar light switch there is the "Glove Compartment Light" diagram. If your does not have one it has been removed and perhaps the glove box is after market and no place was made in it. I was just hoping to find the piece the bulb snaps into and was trying to remember if it was mounted on inside top or rear of box.

46woodie. You are right about the wiring diagram. It does show the glove box light and switch. I have had my glovebox out of my '46 Super Deluxe Coupe, and there is no light or switch. I did have to do some work on the pillar light circuit, and noticed a blank connection, so maybe there was one originally, and removed by a PO. There is no provision in the glove box liner, so suspect the liner is not original as well.

I have an original 1946 "FORD PASSENGER CAR SALES HANDBOOK" which states the following. Light in glove compartment on SUPER DE LUXE only.

It does'nt seem to be listed in any other publication .

Once again, I will NEVER claim to be even close to a "pro" on post war Fords.
My schematics do not show the lamp.
Plus, on my '47 SUPER Deluxe, a preservation awarded car, there is no lamp.
I'm willing to learn...
