John,
Not sure but I got a voltage reducer from Snyder's for my 32 horn, which needs 6 volt.
Regards,
Chris

What ever you do dont run them on 12 volts. Twice their rated voltage means twice the current going through the horn contacts which is very hard on them and their tone will sound terrible. Try a .5 ohm 50 watt wire wound resistor in series with EACH horn. Dont listen to any crap that they will work OK on 12 volts because they wont. Regards, Kevin.

Kevin Yes you are right. Your way is the best way . BUT I have had my 33 cars (ALL 3) ON 12 VOLTS FOR over 30 years and they still honk good . I dont use them a lot but when I do you sure can hear them . BUT you are right . your way is the best way.

wizzer, Yes you are also correct in that they will honk very loud but also out of tune. Like an old bull having his nuts removed. 1933-34 twin Sparton horns are different to each other in that the diaphragms are a different thickness to each other which makes the different tones. Of course you wont notice any tones when they are screaming on 12 volts. Love 33-34 Fords, they are the best. Regards, Kevin.

I got mine to work great on 6v by just using the horn button the switch a 6v relay, no drama fitting the relay in as all the wires had connectors on down by the left side .

Kevin, I respect your electrical knowledge...I know you're a retired auto sparkie of considerable experience. However, I must query what you've written above; "Twice their rated voltage means twice the current" ... I thought 12 volts had half the current [amps] of a 6 volt system. Which is why it is perfectly safe [overkill even] to use original 6 volt wiring loom when converting to 12 jolts.
Like whizzer, I have run my 35 horns on 12 volts for years with no ill effect. i reckon they sound good too....

Brian, You are missing a vital point here. If you have a six volt electrical component and you apply 12 volts to it then you will double the current flowing through it. Its like a water pipe with a flow of 10 gallons per minute at 10 PSI applied, if you double the PSI (pounds per square inch) pressure applied then you double the water flow. Yes a 12 volt system will only require half the current in amps for a given wattage component than if that component was in a six volt system. Brian, study up on ohms law to have a better grasp of it all. All automotive electrical components are designed to operate on their correct voltage and not double that voltage. By doubling the voltage you are breaking the design rules. Regards, Kevin.

Proper six volt sounds like HONK HONK. Twelve volt into a six volt horn, while certainly louder, sounds like SCREEEEWRWRWWRKK.

You can probably buy some small 12 volt horns that you can hide under the shell of the 33-34 Ford horns.
