Default 1928 red steering wheel

Need the color and type color paint to match original steering wheel, any ideas?

Red oxide primer spray paint looks pretty darned close and will not rub off on your hands. To get a little more shine - LITTLE more shine - use rubbing compound over the wheel.

Keep in mind that they were never originally painted so anything you use won't be 100%.

I started to remove the coating that was applied to mine months ago, it had been coated to restore apparently with some kind of material that was white and had been painted with black paint that was scratched and wearing off. The coating was too thick under the light switch and was dragging on it, turning with the wheel. The original color of mine is close to red oxide, but should be a few shades darker on the brown side. I didn't have time to do a complete redo, so I sprayed it with red oxide primer and then 2 coats of PPG clear coat. To knock the shine down on the clear coat, I used some steel wool to give it a dull finish.

To get a little more shine : use the steering wheel for what it's made for - drive the car.

Ford called it brown, and I agree that it is closer to brown than red.
