I haven't heard of Rural King, but that's a good price. Did you read the label to see who actually made the battery, or the CCA?

We got one this summer in Norwalk, Oh. I think they have their own plant. Been in business for a long time. Price was lower, but not as low as $40. Nice people.

That's fairly amazing, even with UPS shipping to me here in New Jersey we're still talking less than $55.00. I can't find anything that compares here locally.....

I just bought one from Battery Warehouse for $72 and then I had to go to TSC for something and they $69 on sale. 625 CCA, 1 year guarantee. I don't get it! Lead is cheap, Plastic is cheap, zinc is cheap, acid and water are cheap, why do batteries (And auto paint) cost so much?

I noticed that there were no reviews on this battery yet. Looked at TSC for their Exide Group 1 battery (750 CCA, $69.99) and found the reviews were not very good. So maybe that old adage "you get what you pay for" is true....

My 12 plus years old battery from the junk yard is made by EPM, which I think stands for East Penn Manufacturing.
I don't know what all brand names they stick on their batteries, but I've had good service from this EPM battery.

The manufacturer of the battery doesn't mean anything. They build a battery to the buyers specs. No real way to determine quality when you buy one.

iVe had excellent luck with farm n fleet batteries. Both modern 12v's (one for my s10 is $54 with a 5 year warranty 3 free replacement)

I just bought one of thier 6v ones to run the frame around and its doing well.

Why are batteries so expensive? Governments Reg's, there are no lead processing plants in USA. The Doe Run in Mo. closed about two or three months ago.

The battery is made by Exide. A battery is as good as it's warranty. If you get 2 years out of it it's worth buying

I have this battery in my Farm tractors and my Model A Works allright, But I take my Batteries to the basement in winter. I have 10 years on 2 of my tractor batteries. I will pick up another battery when I get to Laff.

I'm wondering if they ship it dry, and if not how do they keep it from leaking acid.

Seems to me it would have to be shipped dry, but either way it would have to be shipped by someone special, or I'd think it would be very damaged by any of the common carriers.

Two years?

My 2007 (Dodge) pick-up still has the factory battery, the battery in the Tudor is the one that was in it when I bought the car nine years ago, the battery in the MG is the that came with it eight years ago. Unfortunately I had to replace the Chev's battery this year at a cost of CDN$110 which has a 5-year warranty.

These batteries live in a climate where the temperature routinely goes from +30C to -30C in the year.

Long gone are the days when a battery was warranteed until you left the shop and lasted until the middle of the first snow storm.

Weight of the battery will give you an idea of the amount of lead in it. More lead = longer life. GENERALLY! The best battery is the battery that has been cared for properly.

Ian, the nine year-old NAPA battery in my '28 coupe finally croaked last year.

The two year-old six-volt from Advance Auto croaked after only two years.

Neither will take a charge anymore, or if they do, there's not enough current available to crank an engine.

My current price on a Group 1 six-volt from NAPA is around $93.


Sadly, gone are the days when we could grab a Group 1 battery from Sam's Club for $36. (And sometimes get 5-6 years out of it.)
