Default Flathead Oil Filter Adapter for screw on filter?

Does anyone know if there is an oil filter adapter that is available for a 1950 Ford 239 ci flathead V8? I would like to replace the old original canister and C4 filter element with a modern screw on type filter like the PH8A. Thanks for any assistance.

They are available, but won't improve your oil filtering unless you go the whole 9 yards with a full flow oil filter conversion.

Thanks for the reply Alan. If I can get filtering equal to the original I would be satisfied. The old C4 filters aren't usually available locally and when they are they are pricey, say around $15. The stock flathead is in my 1950 Ford convertible I change oil about every 3000 miles. Do you happen to know a supplier for any of the adapters?

Here is a pic of one I have made but not run yet. I modify my flatheads for the so called 95% filtration. But, if you still used the bypass fitting on the inlet side and connected the outlet side to return to the sump as original, wouldn't that work without modifying your oil system?

i put a remote adapter on my 59ab, no sweat. ran line from oil galley at back of block to filter, then back to sump. i use a 1361 napa filter, but have used frams also. mounted on frame rail just ahead of steer box, and higher than sump. works great!

When you use a filter designed for a full flow system you are losing the by-pass systems ability to filter much finer wear particles. In the conversion to the full flow base and filter only, the system still needs the small orifice to maintain oil pressure to the bearings. ..B.

Whoa! Back up the bus a bit. A small orfice anywhere in a full flow system is going to cause a major LOSS of oil pressure to the bearings! In the old partial filtering system, some of the pressurized oil on its way to the bearings bypassed the oil galley, instead flowing through the bypass filter and then straight back to the pan. Without a restriction at the bypass filter housing, oil would take the path of least resistance and almost all of it would go through the filter instead of to the bearings. With a full flow system, all the oil continues on to the bearings after being filtered. Restricting it would only starve the bearings.

Restrictor orifice is required for a bypass filter system. Not full flow.

bob, hard to see. does your return line go back to pan? appears to be same setup as i have, except mine is mounted off engine. filter is of restrictor type, and i run 45#,s oil pressure on a new flattie. a ph8-a is full flow. there is a difference. keep the input coming!

just an add-on for your info: i have a 80# oil pump with a 40# relief spring. 80#'s when cold, 45'#, when hot. a good ride for this truck is 60 miles one way. have run truck with and without system connected with no difference at all. next time i pull intake, i will install 80# spring and ball. also, as i have the large drain plug on pan, i have a magnet external, just to be safe. never anything in pan. been this way for last 3 years.
