Default 59ab accessory electric clutch fan

Would someone please explained the operation of an accessory 6v/+grn. fan
clutch. I'am helping out a friend in our V8 club , trying to repair this clutch.
Thank you----Larry

Most accessory cooling fans are driven by an electric motor which is controlled by a thermal sensor. I haven't seen a belt driven type operated by a clutch such as used by the AC compressor. I assume you can test the clutch with an ohm meter to confirm that the winding is complete, and the controller is, in fact, working, which is how we test the AC type. Confirm that the clutch is receiving power, and bypass the switch to see if the fan comes on.

.

I'd bet that Larry is referring to the little-known "Dynamic Fan Drive" (59A-8665) assembly offered as optional on SOME '47 & '48 Fords and Mercs. DD

All I can come up with is there is nothing in print after this fan on 59A. Like it vanished as an option. But it again became a option in 1956 F800 and F900s in my parts book. There is no breakdown of parts i guess if it fails you buy another one and it is defiantly alec tro- magnetic also controlled by a sender/sensor fed by 12vts to the ignition switch.

Thanks for the info. I learn something new every day. The apparatus is akin to the old saying "like using a sledge hammer to swat a fly".

Wow never heard of such a thing back in the day. Amazing engineering for the time. Ford dipped back into there black magic bag for the mid 2010's, my 2012 SD has a dynamatic fan.

Check for continuity of the coil - which is the two wires. If open then the coil is not going to pull the rotor, which initiates the fan.
