Default Door Pockets

I am researching front door upholstery pockets. There are 2 types referred to as "set-in" (left photo) and "patch" (right photo). The "set-in" pocket is mounted in a hole cut into the upholstery panel board. The "patch" type is mounted on the door panel on top of the upholstery.
Did one of these pocket types supersede the other or were both types used simultaneously?

Bob, in the MAFCA Victoria Book on page 190 it states the "set in" type was up to March 1931 and the "wire" type was April 1931 to EOP. But I guess that is what you are trying to verify.

I know this has nothing to do with the Victoria's but both my February 1929 Tudor and the September 1929 Standard Coupe have the "Set-In" type of pockets.

I wonder if the Fordor Sedans were different?

Did the 30-31 roadsters ever have door pockets, or is the recess in the inside structure of the door just for rigidity?

Roadsters did not have pockets. My 31 has the recess where a pocket would go. I went to the local shop and they quoted $100 each to install. I have not done the install yet.

Although I could use the storage, it just doest look right for a roadster.

1930 31 Roadsters have the small pouch pockets on the cowl panels, I had an opportunity to see a original standard roadster and the door panel was not much more than an embossed piece of painted cardboard. The fasters were visible along the outer edges. I don’t think any of them had door pockets, cheapest car Ford made.

Very interesting, "set-in" (top photo) and "patch" (lower photo).
