New wood Preservative

I was reading in Les Andrews vol.2 that all new wood should be precoated with a wood preservative and a thin antisqueak padding should be installed between the wood and the sheet metal. Could any of you tell me what product you used.Please let me know the product name .Also what you could use for a thin antisqueak material that would not cause rust.

Something containing copper naphthenate would be the best preservative against rot and bugs.
In a recent thread Mike V. recommended this:

Both contain the same amount of copper naphthenate, one is black, the other green. Both leave a slightly waxy feeling coating that repels water. Takes about 10 days for the stink to air out, then you're good to go.

Sikkens Cetol. Used on boats for years. Great UV protection. Of course that should not be a concern, but this will last forever. One idea for anti-squeak would be the underlayment used on floating pre-finished floors.

For the anti-squeak, black cloth "friction tape" (like what is traditionally applied to hockey stick handles) works reasonably well. You can also use it between the gas tank and the firewall on 30/31s.

If you replace the roof, you also ought to put anti-squeak between the roof ribs and the chicken wire.
