My friend installed a black tarp on his roof over the chicken wire and used black duct tape to fasten it down.
It works for him and he is having with his A!

Well, with the sun looking on the roof here are the results. Sorry, forgot to mention I belt sanded with 120g to knock off the high wrinkles and high spots before sealing.

A lebaron bonney complete top kit is 119.00.. comes with everything needed incld the tacks... (no chicken wire)...
Noted that approximate price for top kits from other sellers. Question . . . Is the top material already cut to shape? Installed a couple of tops upon tudor sedans decades ago. Remember the chicken wire support material which doubled for a radio antenna.

Back in the 1960s we'd stumble across Model A Ford cars in New England barns where, figuring from the old license plates, they'd been forgotten for a long time. Many of the sedans had thick coats of ancient dried TAR covering the roof. Sometimes the solidified stuff was still in places dripping down the upper body and door areas.

Not bad. Let us know if it leaks!

Now he must indeed be a very poor man. Better to park it than make a joke out if it. Where is his pride? Wayne

You still could have done a proper, non Mickey Mouse job for $125 dollars. Why do the farmer fix ? Wayne

I used it on the canvas top on my T huckster to seal and coat. I does fade and wear after a while but a simple recoat fixed that. I think it's the same product as dip-it (pretty sure that is its trade name) sold at auto parts stores for coating tool handles, bumpers and such. We have a top at the shop that was saved from a recover that is coated several layers deep with what look like tar.

There seem to be lots of answers to this problem. I used clear latex roof sealant from the lumber store on my original unrestored sedan top, leftover from a home project. (for house roofs) It goes on milky but dries clear. I added the black roof coat from Snyder's a few months later. It looks like a dry lake bed since age had caused cracking and crazing but no leaks. It's really tough since that was about 30,000 miles back and still no leaks. They are only original once.

IT WORKS!!!
It has been raining for the last couple hours or so and just went out to check the painted on roof, and the inside is drier than a popcorn fart!

I'm tellin ya folks, that FlexShot liquid quart is all it takes to sufficiently cover a Tudor roof, and I would think it is enough to cover a Sedan roof as well.

Well, after a very hard rain, I did find some wet spots, so I didn't have it completely sealed. Today I finished putting a second coat on and wouldn't ya know, we are expecting a storm for the next few days, so we will see if I got it done this time.

Fingers crossed locked up from arthritis.

Why not do it properly rather than a Mickey Mouse fix. You were told originally the correct fix was $125 dollars and you do it once. The car is becoming a joke. Wayne.

It doesn't matter what it covers when it doesn't work. Wayne

Go for it when the roof still leaks? Explain that one to me. Wayne

Thanks DaWizard. This is a great solution for temporary repair on my original roof car. The current roof acts as cheese cloth filtering out acid rain. When it gets wet, it really stirs up the mouse nests in it. Jeff.

Hey, the health dept will fine you for giving them mice the shiverin colds.

Well, I checked just before the sun went down and it is dry inside, I think I will take it for a spin tomorrow, rain or shine. Maybe go to the play pen and swap out the front spring. Sure would like to see it with a bit more attitude. Might even help with the lean to the left.
