Default Bob Drakes gas tanks

I ordered a gas tank for my 46 back in June and still have not received it. Today I received an email from him showing a new catalog that included the same tank. Am I the only one that has not received my order?

I have one of Drake's tanks on my 35 pickup. It's okay for a driver but sure won't pass muster as "Just like the original."

I ordered a tank for my 46 about 2 years ago and it was on back order. It took many months but when it came in, they called, confirmed that I still needed it, then shipped. I bought it for a good price and shipping was very reasonable.
I haven't installed it yet, so I can't verify the fit.

I thought it was just the stuff I order! It seems every time I call Drake fore something it's on backorder! Once after about two months waiting for a part I called and canceled my order, I called another supplier and had the part in two days!!! Bob is in his 70s and may be looking to retire.

I believe that in todays economy the big suppliers like Drake and others, take orders first and then set the production quantities according to those numbers plus a little over. This is probably more likely to happen on the larger size items so they don't have to worry about shelving the extra inventory. I recall ordering a 35-36 gas tank along with some other items on Drake sale with free shipping. I remember that it was back ordered and they gave me the option of shipping all the other items while the tank remained on BO. It arrived a month or two later with no shipping cost to me.

I couldn't pass on the price, but the wait is getting pretty long.

I'll just continue patching with JB WaterWeld until mine comes in.

Works fine for a couple of months at a time, but I sure would like to put a new tank in before it gets wicked cold.

90% of the stuff I get from Bob Drake is better than anything else I can buy. I would say after Bob lost the reproduction 1940 Ford coupe that money was tight on his end. He charges $99.00 and free shipping for his gas tank on some previous offers. If you have a old tank and want it fixed you can send it to Tank Re U and it will come back perfect except for a hard rubber substance on the exterior of the tank. Cost not counting shipping both ways for my last tank was $250.00. Shipping total was around $60.00. Bob's tank looks better all the time to me.

I bought a gas tank fron Bob Drake for my 1939 Ford. I called about 2 weeks later, and he said it would be 60 days before it will be shipped. they will not take the money out of my credit card until it is shipped. It was only $100.00 shipped!! I can wait , since I do not have the coupe near ready for a tank.Henry

I wonder what Drakes price for gas tanks will be on his end of summer sale w/free shipping?

been hot here also, but not over 100* like you have had. I had a triple by pass 18 months ago and a nother heart attack 12 months ago, so the hot weather really shuts me down. It is in the low 80's reat of week, so I can do some work on my 1939 coupe, "Junker".

I bought a Bob Drake gas tank for my `35 from Dennis Carpenter several years ago and picked up on my way to the Charlotte Show. Carpenter's may have what you need in stock.

Bought some 36 running boards from Drakes last winter and they shipped within a few days.
I bought a SS gas tank from a friend who didn't open the box and a year later found out the drain plug boss was not welded at all so check what ordered carefully when it arrives.

I did the same back in July... I knew they were backordered, but I decided to go ahead, since Drake's said they would be in about 45 days. 45 days went by, so I called them... they said they now be in around late October... I told them to cancel my order. I have never used Bob Drake before, but wasn't happy with their customer service through this ordeal.
