Electric Fuel Pump

Guys.....

I've got a 5.0 Liter Mustang V8 in my '57 F100. The electric fuel pump went bad. What would be a good replacement with the 5.0 Liter with 4-Barrel ? What PSI ?

I'm running this I've used them in a lot of various projects my '54 has a 5.0 with a Carter AFB 625 CFM with this pump http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carter-P4070...pTD7hV&vxp=mtr If you run an Edelbrock Carb you may have to add a pressure regulator. DO NOT use a paper filter between the tank and the pump and mount the pump as close to the tank as possible this will give them a longer life.

That's plenty. I've used the adjustable regulator and found most engines are getting plenty of fuel at 2 1/2 to 3 psi. My old 300 six would run fine at 2 or a little less.

I run my '40 Flathead at 2.5 psi with a reg and it's perfect. I was just wondering what to do with a 5.0 L. I'm running a Carter on the '40. Went to NAPA and no Carters anymore so I got the inline type and added filter at the carb area. I've got some type of bastard carb which I think I'll replace.

I have the Carter 4070 in my 53f100 feeding an Edelbrock carb on a 302. Works great.

Guys ........

I went to NAPA and tried to buy a Carter but they said their not around anymore !!!!!! So.....I bought an inline one that resembles an Airtex that is good with modern fuels. Drained the tank, put in fresh fuel and installed the new pump. Turned on the key and it runs just perfect !

I sent photos of my 4-Barrel carb to one of the guys here and he said whoever had it before me cut off the choke tower and linkage so that why it looks like a bastard carb !!! So I have no choke for cold start. I'm going to drive as is for awhile with new pump and maybe then go to an Edelbrock 4-Barrel.

Okie which 4-Barrel are you running ?

Good luck with the Airtrex (Cater sells the same one also) the ones that I used had a high failure rate. Carry a spare, that is what I did. Replaced several at the side of the road. The 4070 is harder to mount but is a much better pump, IMO.

These seem to produce better mileage over the same size Edelbrock lots of youtube.com videos on them also https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...00vs/overview/ The the most common Edelbrock used is the 1406,if your 5.0 is basically stock this is a good choice https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1403/overview/

Mike, I am very pleased with my Holly 4 barrel 390 on my 332 fe and it was reasonbly priced . Just like to pass on for you ponder as a good option. I've kept fords running for a lot of years and I definatly liked the Carter carb but this Holly has sure stole first place for me!!
At 72 years old I no longer burn the tires at the stop lights however the nice responce of this Holly sure would have been something i would have liked to have had back in the day!! lol [ P.S. it doesn't leak gas anywhere either]

I shop Napa when I can.

UncleVin.......I'm looking at Holly for sure. More later when it gets warmer here to work outside.

I could not buy at Carter at Napa so I did buy an inline that is good with the modern fuels, so we'll see how it goes.
