Default Wheel Spindle Repair

Does any one know of a way or know of a person who can repair a wheel spindle in the area of the inner bearing?

If you are talking damage/wear from the inner race spinning on the spindle any good machine shop should be able to spray weld and machine back to spec. Lots of people dimple the spindle and locktite the bearing on although Im not a fan of that.

Sure, send it to me. Or send it to any good machine shop.

NOT a good idea, as the bearing race should be a slip fit so it can rotate.

Joe, if you recall when we were talking on the phone a month or two ago, the way I would approach repairing yours is to place the spindle in a welding positioner and after preheat, apply a continuous bead of weld around the spindle's bearing race area. Next I would rough machine it to within 0.010" or so on a lathe spinning it between centers. Then I would use my crankshaft grinder to finish it to final size. At that point it is ready for wet Magnaflux to ensure no cracks.

While replacing a spindle is the most economical way, restoring rarer types of vehicles may not always give the opportunity to just replace it. Sometimes repair of the existing item and restore to original specs is the only option.
