Default LED tail lights

I have a stock 6 volt positive ground with Signal lights. Everything is working fine. I’m trying to install these led’s for a brighter lights. I’ve plugged them in and they didn’t work. What’s the secret. The instructions on the package states plug and play.

I put in six of them and they did plug and play. Try to light them up with a direct connection from battery. If they do work, it should be easy to fix.

Is it possible by error you received a set that was intended for 12 volts?

Or a set that's negative ground?

I just connected it to the battery directly and they work. Can it be the flasher ?
There’s a factory sticker on them for 6. Volt positive ground

Sticker on back says 6V Pos ground. If you mean signals don't work, you need an electronic flasher. LEDs don't work with a stock thermal flasher.

That’s what I’m thinking. Do you know the part number for the electronic flasher?

John,
I installed a load resistor, Snyders #A-13464, on the L & R wires near the tail lights.
I used a Novita #LL535 flasher. Turn signals work great.
Check out those two items.

https://www.brattons.com/6-volt-electronic-flasher.html

The load resistors work also, as Ed says.

The LL535 is described as an electromechanical flasher, may be same as Bratton's. Load resistors are required only if you want to use the thermal flasher.

Though I have 12 volt LED's, the electronic flasher didn't work; tried 2 of them. Went back to conventional 3 prong flasher with good results.

Perfect that’s the information I needed
Thanks

I've been unable to get an electronic flasher to work on 6v. To use a standard thermo 535 just change the front turns to a higher Candle Power bulb.

The electronic flasher from Brattons is 2 prong and the Novita LL535 is 3 prong. I've not tried either of these flashers.

I was just thinking. Before I spend any money are the LED’S worth changing to? Are they much brighter then standard 6 volt blubs? So far I got the lenses for free So far I have nothing into it.

Yes; the 12 volts are especially bright when run with an alternator which keeps the battery up charged.
We have similar lenses in the photos but ours don't fit the teacup covers very well. May need a little grinding of the plastic.

I'm still at 6 volt pos ground and converted to LED's . MUCH brighter. One caution. Mine blew out after about a week, so I returned them to United Pacific (the maker of most of the led's sold by the suppliers) for the warrantee. They informed me that it appeared, after they analyzed them that they failed due to a high voltage spike. They replaced them. I then theorized that there may be a bad ground for the generator, so I ran a wire from the generator case to the engine block to maintain a good ground. So far, after 3 years, no failure. Of course, this theory may be off base, but at least I can be assured of a good ground.

Slightly off topic but has anyone tried drop in LED replacement bulbs?

My friend has a 6 volt system, his LED tail lights are just as bright as are mine on 12 volts.

My A is 6V positive ground, last year converted Tail and Stop lamps to drop in replacement LED. They seem 2- 3x brighter than original.

Have a late 30 CCPU.

Place I ordered from - cast about $52

Email or call them for selection help.

John,
You ask is it worth changing, YES. Last weekend the San Diego club took a 120 mile trip to the mountain community of Idyllwild, all of it on winding 2 lane roads. For part of the trip I followed a couple members with the original lights, they suck. You will be very happy you went to LED lights, and so will the folks behind you.

I changed to the LED 6v rears a number of years ago. Huge difference in brightness. I was thinking from the first post that you already had the lights. As said, to get them flashing at a normal rate, the electronic flashers were only 12v at that time and would not work. To get them working normally with a standard 535 I installed higher CP bulbs in the fronts [ cowl and park] which of course makes them brighter also.
