I would like to put an AA trans on my father's model A pick up but what kind of u-joint I need ?
Any solution ?

Someone else will provide a detailed answer to your question but I have one. The AA four speed will give you an additional gear that is really to low to be practical except for a couple of unique applications, pulling tree stumps and driving in parades. Why are you considering this?

You might think about a different rear end ratio..If you happen to have a 3:78 then a 4:11 might make quite a difference, and it may be easier to change and less difficult to find than an AA bellhousing, throw-out carrier, transmission and bearing retainer, suitable u-joint and clamshell...

You will need to alter your floor boards and re-locate the brake light switch as well..

Where in the world are you? I did not see a location in your statistics..

My '28 Roadster Pickup has the AA 4 Speed Trans in it. I like it.
You only use 1st when needed. Shift pattern is same as three speed trans during normal driving. 2nd, 3rd, 4th on 4 speed is same as 1st, 2nd, 3rd on 3 speed. Reverse has a lock out that is much safer.
1st is ideal for slow parades and helps prevent unnecessary holding down the clutch pedal wearing out your Babbit thrust bearing.
Much easier to get moving from being stopped on a steep hill. Very little clutch slipping needed.
It does require a lot of changes though to do the conversion correctly.Mine was a factory dealer retrofit in '31 as my trans is dated 2-13-31.

I think if the conversion was well done you would hardly notice the difference, except for that very low first gear.....

I might have kept mine but the case is broken where the pedal shaft attaches..the brake pedal stops are broken off....and it was noisy...counter shafts are hard to find....

First gear on the 4-speed is 6.4:1 where first gear on the 3-speed is 3.12:1.....

He bought a 4.55:1 rear axle but top speed droped dramatically.
I suggested him to use his AA trans...but you tell me it's a bad idea...

If you have an AA transmission and bell housing etc. and have the parts then put the AA transmission in....with that 4:55 rear end it will pull stumps if you can get the traction!

It's not a bad idea, it just was not what I wanted.....

I would like to use standard ratio and AA trans. But lots of specific parts are missing to connect AA trans to model A driveshaft and torque tube.

Do you have the U-joint for the AA truck?

You must also have a U-joint for the A truck.

Can the two u-joints be dis-assembled and a new combination of the AA yoke on the transmission side and the A yoke on the driveshaft side be assembled?

I have no idea if this will work.....

These are the parts required that will make it possible to install the AA 4-speed transmission into an A "passenger" vehicle:

A-7085-E Rear Bearing Retainer
A-7090-C U-Joint Assembly
AA-7095 U-Joint knuckle retainer.

Also, make sure you check out the link that Bob gave you in Post #4. Vince has all the information there as well.

I will look at my U-joint and see if there are separate part numbers on the yokes or if there is just one part number for the assembly...

I know my bearing retainer is wrong..

So here is more information. The part number A-7090-C is not cast into my u-joint.

The number J10517 is cast in the large "AA" end

The number 121-A2 is cast in the small "A" end

The center cross has F-2-5-52 cast in it.

You can see the dimensions of the cross...

I hope this is of some use.....!!

Now, I "just" need the 3 parts...
( or,eventually, a retainer bearing and try to assemble my model A and AA U-joints.)
