Morning Chris. Don't try to remove that broken bolt, I'll do it. You can teach me how to install towers. Walt

We pulled the motor this morning. everything went smooth. i have a boom truck so i elected to leave the nose of the the truck on and seperate the transmission from the motor before we pulled it out. used an engine lift on the transmission and it came out easily. Did take the seat out first...

Took my engine down to Walt Dupont today. Luckily he's only a little over an hour away. We were able to get the engine torn down and see what was going on with it. turns out, #3 piston had a large hole down the side of it that was letting fuel by and then igniting it in the base causing the oil breather cap to become a large projectile.. A few of the pistons were pretty beat plus a hand full of broken rings.
The good news..
This is a completely virgin block. the crank should clean up at just .010 under. Haven't checked the cylinders yet. The block looks good so far pending cleaning and testing. As much as i want to modify this engine, I will show restraint and have it put back together stock..
Besides, my highly modified flathead is sitting on Walt's test stand. OH MY GOSH!!! He just doesnt know i'm taking it
Was a fun day working and learning with Walt.

Hey Chris. it's pretty hard to clean a worn crank at .001, I think you meant .010 ha ha ha Had a fun day today. Walt

Been doing some odds and ends on the truck while the engine is away.. All new copper nickel brake lines, new copper nickel fuel line, cleaned out the gas tank, replaced all the grease fittings on the truck, sprayed the underside of the truck with fluid film, cleaned and repacked the front wheel bearings, ordered the parts i need for when the engine comes back. of course the front motor mounts were back ordered..

Just curious, where do you buy the copper nickel brake line material? I will be replacing the brake lines on my 49 club coupe in the next few months.

They stock it at my local Napa. great stuff to work with. rarely need the bending tool. Did my whole pickup just bending with my hands.

Walt got my engine finished up this week. i went down and we put it on the test stand and everything checked out great. 60lbs of oil pressure idled up and right around 50 at slow idle. dont ask me how he does it.. i dont know.. Was able to get it installed this morning. Should have it running and driving in a few days. been frigid here lately. this shop isnt heated so not much fun working in. -2 this morning. high of 6 tomorrow..
