Default What's The A Mean to the Family?

I was reading the post about the guy who was thinking about selling his grandfather's A. Made me think. Will my son or grandson look at my A's as something to turn into cash when the time comes, or will they see them as having sentimental value. Obviously, I hope it's the latter. For my son the A's are a backup car and have been around as long as he has. Also, my grandson rides home from school with me in one of them nearly every week as well as to the lumber yard. Hope they enjoy them, and will think fondly of the big part of our lives they have been. Who knows?

What about your families

That is what scares me. When I go there is NOBODY to leave my car to. I don't have kids so I will have to either donate it to MAFFI or hopefully find someone who will love her as much as me.

When you're dead that isn't a problem. Bob

None of my family cares about my Model As. My 3 daughters grew up in them and my 17 year old grandson drives an electric car. I'll probably sell them all and give the money to my wife hopefully before I go to the big garage in the sky.

My wife and I don't have children. If I died tomorrow, they would be sold the next day. Depressing, but I try not to think about it.

I'm grateful to have two boys so far and it's quite common with them to have the conversation about who's gonna get which cars. I think they would appreciate them for what they are and their sentimental value when they get older.

I guarantee you that when you are dead, you could not care less what happens to what you left behind.

I am a second generation Model A kid now 48, my parents are still very involved with the Model A Ford and our club. My kids are very much into the Model A hobby too, my 17 year old bought his first Model A when he was 15years old. My Daniel is 13 and is saving to purchase his own car when the time is right. I am very blessed that my wife and kids both enjoy this great hobby.

I have seen over and over lately that when Dad or granddad dies the antique car collection becomes a burden for the wife and family who can not sell them quick enough. Usually someone will come in and offer less than half what the collection is worth and the family jumps on the first offer. I have seen several instances where deals were made at the funeral home! Something to think about.

This is what happened to my neighbors Model A when he passed. The first thing they did was sell their father's car and they didn't have any financial burdens.

*Ahem*

I love your car.... Even sitting in the passenger seat, one could tell it is quite special.

I Think we have not much control over that. I have family that don't care about my AA but I do and I can't even drive it. Good luck to you all I now the feeling. It a shame the A's and AA's have lived this long and how many will survive.

Unfortunately, many "families" of A folk see the cars as a source of money and nothing else. Too often, we hear after the fact that the family sold Dad's car to somebody unknown to the group rather than at least offering for sale to those that were Dad's friends that knew the car.
After hearing that a deceased friend's "family" had done a quick-and-out-of-town sale of their grandfathers car, my wife recently assured me that my cars would be kept in the family. I assured her that the news was comforting but did she realize that I intended to use one of them as a casket?

Some of the A's on here seem to be haunted by Gremlins.

Now, just how did AMC come up with such an unlikely name for a car?

That's one way to make sure one of the Model A's gets destroyed.

I was lucky enough to inherit my dad's two A's. BUT- my siblings didn't receive part of them (I guess because I helped restore them) so there can be family issues that arise. I love the A's and so do my young children, but there is also a burden. The monthly cost of storing them (over $2k a year), the lack of time to use them properly because of my own family's needs. I wouldn't sell, but I also don't want my kids to feel 'obligated' to keep them in the family after I'm gone.
