Default Columbia rear end

Can anyone tell me if they originally installed Columbia rear ends in 1935 Ford pickup trucks? If so, do any of you know where I might find one with the controls for sale? Thanks, Jerry

I have a "complete" '40 Columbia Overdrive unit. Axle housing and Synchro Clutch have been sleeved by Doug Lindow. Ready for final assembly. Needs a new home.

If you want to be a purist, the Ford Motor Company never installed Columbia's in a Ford or Mercury. They were all dealer installed. And in 1935 it was not an authorized accessory. Since a 35 (1/2 ton) pickup has the same rear end as a car, a dealer could have installed it and the EFV-8 Club does not penalize for having one.

The Columbia two speed was first used on 1932 Auburns before Fords . Anybody know what other years of Auburns this was used on? Must not have been very many as I have never seen one for sale in my years of digging for them. I could not find out this question when I first visited the Auburn museum last month during the Early V8 meet, someone who knew was supposed to answer question but he was busy for 15 minutes I waited. Another question I could not find that day was the beautifull Auburn showroom the only place to look and buy the cars or was there a dealership system? Pictures of some rich famous people look like they had to go to Indiana to purchase.Mayby I can find an Auburn site.

As I understand, Auburn, Cord & Duisenberg did not have a dealership system in place, although they may have had representatives in major cities to promote and sell the cars. When someone bought a car they would have to go to the factory to pick it up or arrange to have it shipped to their location. In 1937 Cord closed the factory, ceased production and moved his family to California. An interesting note is that he (Mr. Cord) purchased a '37 Lincoln Zephyr to make the trip. His rational was that Lincoln had a large dealership network combined with Ford so, if there were any problems with the car, it could easily be repaired.
