1935 Sedan Exterior Door Handle Locked Out
I am pretty sure that I am asking a rookie question here. In an attempt to replace the worn exterior door handle gaskets on my 1935 Sedan I seem to have locked myself out. I was able to remove the passenger side rear door handle pretty effortlessly. When I tried to reinstall it I found that it was near impossible. I figured I would pull the door panel to take a look and found that the inside door handle would no longer open the door. I now have no working handles and I am reaching out for some help and advice to open this door and reinstall the exterior door handle. Where do I go from here? Thanks in advance for any advice that you might have!

I'm not familiar with 35's, but I'll bump it back up for ya.

Ford will lock from the inside and not open from the outside even with a key. My 34 did this. Newc

Re: 1935 Sedan Exterior Door Handle Locked Out
The inner slide of the latch is pretty much independent of the exterior handle and if neither the exterior or the inner handle will pull the striker back it sounds like something is broken.
Sounds like the next step would be to push the striker back with a thin tool from the inside to open the door. Then pull the door panel and latch to see what's going on. Picture may help you visualize the inner workings. The tab is pulled by the interior handle to open the door; while it is pushed to lock the door. The exterior handle turns a cam inside the lower part of the latch inside the square hole. Hard to see in the picture but the square hole in the cam is level while the square hole in the framework is offset, this is what prevents removal of the exterior handle without also partially turning the inside handle. |

I'm thinking its a broken spring that you see on the top of the picture. I have a 36, pretty much the same as the 35 , but its been a long time since I had that unit out to work on. terry

Could likely be a broken spring in the remote.

Re: 1935 Sedan Exterior Door Handle Locked Out
As I recall there are two springs in the '35-36 door lock assembly. One in the remote handle and one in the latch assembly shown in the pix, one or both of these springs could be broken
