Backfire, this may help someone
Sorry if this is not important but for someone like me who is just starting these things are important.
I had my 29 2door running excellent, had figured out how to setup the carburetor everything was perfect, top speed 65+ MPH on the highway, perfect and then it started. Backfire, running poorly could not find the problem. I noticed it got a little better when I filled the tank all the way up. I had flow at the gas line, but I don't know what "good flow is". After checking everything else I decided it had to be in the gas lines somewhere. I drained the tank, removed the shut off valve, and all the other lines from the tank to the crab. I even rigged a system to vacuum anything from the bottom of the tank, just in case although mine looked very clean. Everything was clear BUT when I got to the glass bowl, there was something slowing down the air. I put a piece of wire in, cleaned everything but still a slowdown in air flow. So I put my air compressor on and pushed air into the passage. I piece of rubber came flying out. I looked allover my garage for it, because it must be something important. I found it, and I knew I had seen something like it before. It turned out to be the rubber gasket on the plastic insert filter. I had changed the filter, and it came with a rubber gasket on the tip. When I took off the old one, I didn't notice the gasket had not come out with it. As I installed the new one the new gasket pushed the old gasket all the way inside the passage on the filter and partially closed off the passage. Maybe this will never happen to someone else, but just in case I am posting it here, I hope it's ok. Cheers |

Re: Backfire, this may help someone
A friend was vacuuming his gas tank. There must have been some gas or some thing left in the Tank. Wittiness said the vacuum cleanser, a old tank type took off like a rocket, with flames coming out the rear, flue across the street and to neighbors garage setting the house on fire.
Funny now, but not then JB
