Default My age I seen it all, now this?

This came in with a skip then no skip. Thought to be a sticky valve that came
back to No. 4. this is on a F6 I can't go to poke this exhaust valve battery
tray in the way. so we popped the head and my son just plucked the valve
and guide right out, thats a first. Examined the guide lock lands blown out.??
Popped the intake, found guide lock clip thats perfect then hunted with magnet and found the guide pieces. Again it ran on all 8s then the skip. All I think of
is previous owner maybe this valve was stuck and turned it over with force?
the big BUT I took it apart and valve and guide no signs of corrosion has no valve guide play.. but the guide keeper lands are gone. Then why did it go
in an out of a skip? I bet seeing the valve assembly slid out it could be acting like a make an break engine enough air to push it down fire then skip.
Solution have a new sign for the shop. We machine the occult problems. sam

Had the same thing happen. The stem was stuck so tight in the guide it broke off the lands for retainer clip.
Mine was from old gas, i got the motor that way from the previous owner who said it had a miss.

Got all the broken pieces out , replaced the guide and valve , runs ok now

39 engine ran but sounded really bad and smoked. pulled intake to have a quick look and found #5 intake valve guide moving with the valve, really stuck to it, keeper laying in the valley, guide was worn out from moving up and down, but the block was not, new valve, new guide and a keeper and it really ran good no smoke, thought I had seen it all also

The odd thing is the valve stem and guide are clean and no play. somebody been in there cause it has adjustable lifters. no problem I flung those stupid adjustable tools in the woods. with a block of aluminum I bored that to a nice lifter fit. I drilled the side for a pin.
put lifter in put valve assembly in and measure lash = to much to little put lifter in my
jig witch is clamped in the vise push pin in lifter, then tweek the adjuster nut as needed
and to ease my mind I use a strap clamp held with 2 head bolts with a valve spring on the valve head and the clamp that simulates the valve is firmly on its seat instead of ya
thumb to measure lash. My other time saver was to machine an extension for dial indicator thru the guide to find the absolute heal of the cam holding lifter with finger
down and rotate crank so indicator zeros out. I do a lot of valves sick of skinned knuckles so these cheap inventions are truly time savors. sam

all made from the scrap bucket..
