Swap meet preference items...
When you go to a swap meet with high expectations or even with no expectations at all, just what is it that you might pick up just to "have it" in your Model A/AA stash of goodies?

Re: Swap meet preference items...
well in my case usually its because i see one thats in better condition than what i got. only spare thing i picked up was a carburetor so far as the castings were better than what i got but its nice to have a spare.
really space is a big factor for me. i dont have a whole lot of it so i have to be choosy with what i buy.

Re: Swap meet preference items...
Late '31 anything. I guess I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum from the 'AR' guys. I also collect headlight lenses, VE28 - L31. There are multiple minor focus variations in both the fluted and Twolite designs that are unrecognized by the JS from both the US PA based suppliers that were under contract to Ford. Of course, if something catches my eye, need is irrelevant. I'm a pack-rat and must feed my habit.

Re: Swap meet preference items...
That pretty much describes me. All 3 of my A's have been '31's, never considered anything but a '31 when I was searching for my current vehicle.

KR Wilson tools of course... and any other "original" goodies. Found 3 KR Wilson tools, a NOS tail light stand with original paint ( and runs) and a bunch of other goodies at the Wichita KS swap last weekend.

I am about to do the Sydney swap this weekend and ballarat next weekend. Kicking myself last bendigo, I passed on a good 28 tank for 90 bucks. I turned around after 50 feet away to go back but it was sold. That won't happen again. |

Re: Swap meet preference items...
I help maintain all four years of the mighty Model A and a AA so anything might grab my attention. Trouble is if I go there is never enough Model A stuff. If I skip the swap meet everyone that attends tells me about all the stuff I missed, and they got cheap!

Anything Winfield, except most stuff seems overpriced at meets.

Anything for the Victoria, sheet metal, interior parts, whatever.
Years ago I was the swap meet king of '28-'29 hood shelfs; picked up 8 or 9 pairs before selecting one set to re-do for the roadster. Then the rest went back to the Big 3. Which by the way is only a week off! |

Re: Swap meet preference items...
Anything Model A. Around here A stuff is pretty rare at a swap. After that anything shiny or interesting. Also put anything I don't really need to the top of the list. At Turlock last year I bough a crate from an old bait shop. The vendor really looked at me funny when I asked him how much for the box. Not the contents just the box.

Re: Swap meet preference items...
As Larry mentioned KRW tools. Good sheetmetal sold cheaply, uncracked nickle plated brass tail lights , early 28 parts, wiper motors and anything NOS at a decent price. Rod

Re: Swap meet preference items...
I'm a spark plug whore---I collect old sparkplugs--build shadow boxes to display them in and hang them in every available space on the wall. I do the same with windshield frames. I use them as picture frames for old newspaper adds and pictures of cars that interest me.

Re: Swap meet preference items...
I'm always excited to find the rare and unusual item that most folks don't recognize. The non-sidebowl Zenith 3 at Chickasha, the KRW rear wheel puller at Petite Jean and the 31 Oklahoma License plate at Springfield come to mind as examples of what keeps me going back to the swap meets.
I also look for the guy that has built all the cars he's ever going to and wants to sell his stash of parts by the pound. It's an addiction. |

30-31 AA parts and anything that seems like a real good deal, as in super cheap.

Re: Swap meet preference items...
I like looking for all the ford tools, original brake switches, gas and radiator caps, and spark plugs that are dirty and usually piled in with all the other "junk". Its a treasure hunting addiction.
PS My wife likes going with me and looking for old oil cans and signs. Win!
