Default 56 t-bird 312 mech temp sender

I'd like to hook up a mechanical temp gauge but the taped hole where the existing sender goes into the head is too large for just the mech. sender and too small for the adapter they send with gauge. Is there another spot to install the new mech sender? Or is there a special sender/gauge I need to get?
Thanks Jeff

O'Reilly stores have a section for after market instruments, and on the display wall you will find a pack of adapters (3 or 4) for about $10. Both the large, '55/'56, and the small '57 are included. I believe they under the Equus banner.

I don't think you will be able will be able to go mechanical unless you can remove the existing bushing. I been using the Stewart Warner electric gauge and they have a 1/8 pipe probe 1/4" and 3/8 or a 1/2 depending on your requirements. It is also nice not to deal with that long stiff coax.
