I haven't read all the postings but a ball bearing mouse trap is the best. Read that "Tom Cat".

One of the guys in our car club has a serious mouse issue. He purchased four 24" x 24" cookie pans. He jacked up the car and put a pan under each tire and filled the pans with waste motor oil. Well it didn't work. Somehow the mice still got into the car and made a mess of the interior. I don't believe they can be stopped, unless you get a couple of cats and leave them in your garage.

I think the one thing that we can all take away from this is that nothing works forever. Give them little bastards enough time and the can get used to anything. If something works for you fine, keep using it. But if it seems that is staring to lose it's effectiveness, it's probably time to turn to something else.

antifreeze. Repelling them doesn't cure the problem, just prolongs it.

You have to stay vigilant, I got lazy and didn't check the traps as often as I should have. The little varmints ate a hole in my convertible top that was up, off the floor on a lift for the winter. At my shop, I plugged all the holes that I could find and they still get in. I set traps around with peanut butter (mice crack) which works the best. It's usually one mouse a week at the same location. Mice seem to follow the same route as their predecessors have fatefully done. I feel no remorse for their demise and apparently they don't ether. It can be a bloody trap and it still doesn't stop them from going after the bait.
