1936 Ford Convertible Trunk Back Sedan Top Irons
It is my understanding the top irons for the 1936 trunk back convertible sedan had one extra bow as compared to the slant back top irons. I am restoring a trunk back, but only have a rough set of slant back top irons. Can anyone help with measurements and photos to add the extra bow to what I have. I will need to remake some of the assembly, am hoping this is do-able.

Kurt - The photo helps for sure. If you could get a side on view with a few measurements of the iron that bolts to the oak bow - that would help. I assume the green bow is attached also - or pivots from the mounting bracket right behind the door post?

The green bow is the original, it's function is to hold the blanket covering the seat, i am using the back seat for a lounge

To determine if there are any differences in the common wood bow - I could use two measurements. First - the length of the iron that holds the wood top bow from the rivet at the bottom - to its end on the bow. Second measurement is the total length from the rivet at the bottom of the iron bow that holds the wood bow - across the top of the wood bow - over to the opposite side bottom iron rivet. This will give me the total length of the assembled bow - hence the arc. I hope this is all clear - and my thanks! |

Kurt - Think I figured out how to post photos. Will see if this works. Sorry about the background - your wires were not a problem for me - hope you can see the difference. These are oriented as if you were looking from the inside of the car out.

The green bow is wood, it is the original bow,, it is just laying there ,the primer painted WOOD is finger jointed structure going from door post to door post and is some of the structure the top bow bracket attaches to---- added a picture of other car, late 36, in this picture I wonder the use of the flaired brass grommets, I am wondering if late production had different attachments for the boot, that a rod fit in there for attaching the boot

KiWinUS - These photos are excellent thanks for posting! It is now very clear.
Kurt or KiWinUS - would it be possible to still get measurements? While all looks the same except for the missing bow - I'd like to make sure. I might be able to scale the iron piece that attaches to the wood bow from these photos to confirm it is the same as mine. Measurements would still help. They do not need to be exact, but measuring from the rivet right behind the window to the end of the iron on the bow would be helpful. Kurt - would you be interested in selling the old extra bow (the green one)? Thanks again. |

I didn't think to measure the iron from pivot to screw hole, I measured the green bow, inside 64" tip to tip, 51" third hole to third hole from the center of the pivot to outside of bow I got 21", tis is from the bow on the car, I think my father got a special price when he bought it, it has 2 sets of holes that were wrong and plugged
I learned to not get rid of "xtra" parts till the job is done, I regret that the remains of the front bow got sold |
