My coupe was purchased in Henderson, Tx in 1963 but was built in Sommerville, Ma I know the name of only 1 previous owner. So few states titled back then and most of that info is long gone. I would be surprised if Louisiana could document it today

Robert, most of the time it is stamped in the floor right in front of the front seat. I had to remove paint to read it.

It can be really tough to see. The characters aren't real big to start with.

I had to deal with rust, and wear, and a light factory stamping, and a half over-stamped character. I used lighting from multiple directions to finally be able to see it.

My pickup cab is stamped "LA" (Long Beach, CA), and "8 30" (August 1930). So my cab was made in August, but the truck was assembled in September (or maybe later?) since it has the one-piece splash aprons.

I purchased my pickup from the third owner in Miamisburgh, Ohio. I have the names and addresses of the first two owners. The truck was built in Cincinnati in September 1930 and had always resided in the Dayton, Ohio area until I purchased it in 2005.

Back in the day, things were notated on paper or card stock and filed away at you local DMV. Eventually, records were shifted to the state where they could be kept for search by law enforcement agencies. The advent of computerization helped speed the process up and store more files than ever possible before but it was an add as you go type system. Old files were never added to the system so they likely no longer exist.

Every state and country is different so it's hard to say how much information a person could find but first a person has to know where to look. With several generations of people already past, it would be hard to track by the method of personal interview of previous owners unless you know who one or two of them were.

As used cars, these old model As could be purchased pretty cheaply . Who knows how many people bought and sold some of them before they started to become collector vehicles. Most folks couldn't wait to get a newer car back in the day. Look at the Fords of the 30s & 40s and a person can tell what folks were looking at in the used car lots and it wasn't the old Ts & As.

Check with your State Historical Society if they may have past DMV records. The Wisconsin State Historical Society has Wisconsin DMV records from 1905 to 1948 or so for trucks, and 1905 into the 50’s for autos, also motorcycles.
A few years ago, I managed to find out who the original owner of our AA truck was, after searching the records for 10 hours, searching by the serial number. Good Luck !
